It’s with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Bourne, loving father to Dawn (Eric) Dalla Lana, David Bourne (Shona), & Joanne (Chris) Weir and Stepfather to Dennette Hanna-Shea, & Chris (Bernie) Degg. He also leaves behind six grandchildren & 2 step-grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his wife Jacqui, parents Harry & Annie Bourne, sister Mary McLeod and brother Ron Bourne.
Tom was born and raised in Calgary. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked predominantly as a project manager for various construction companies in Alberta including Poole Construction, Norman Nilsen Construction, and most recently Stuart Olsen Construction. He was very dedicated to the Engineering profession and has left an impressive compilation of schools, hospitals and other structures throughout western Canada. His legacy of projects include the Bonnie Doon Pool, the Leduc Hospital, the UofA Library, the Viking Arms apartments, the Crowsnest Pass Hospital, and a complete reconstruction of the Alberta Hospital in Ponoka.
Outside of work, Tom volunteered as a ski patrol on the slopes of Rabbit Hill in Edmonton and Marmot Basin near Jasper. Other interests and activities were camping with family, scuba diving, riding motorbikes, sailing and obtaining a pilot’s licence to fly. He also spent many hours on home and yard improvements - always yielding outstanding results.
The family would like to thank the staff at Touchmark Long Term Care Residence and Judy Halliday, his visiting companion, for all their kind, supportive and excellent care.
A family gathering will be held in Southern Alberta to honor him.
