Virindar Singh Lamba of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 24th, 2020. Virindar was born on October 5th, 1936 in Kot Kapura, Punjab, India and passed away just short of his 84th birthday.
In a country of arranged marriages, Virindar fell in love with Shavinder Gondara of Faridkot, and they celebrated their 58th anniversary on August 15, 2020. At the age of 19, Virindar moved to Canada to attend the University of British Columbia, where he graduated at the top of his class in Electrical Engineering. He is the first to graduate with this distinction at UBC, wearing a turban.
Virindar worked at CN for 20 years, helping to design the signal system for the Trans Canada Railway. While moving from Winnipeg, to Montreal, and finally to Edmonton, he raised 3 children and was grandpa to 3, Simryn Thind, Praveen Thind and Sachi Lamba. He is survived by wife, Shavinder Lamba; daughters, Savraj Thind and Navjot Lamba; and son, Harpreet Lamba.
Most importantly he was a father figure to almost all who met him.
There was truly nothing that he could not make or fix. But it was his spiritual awareness, humble grace, and sweet sense of humour that distinguished him from everyone else. Virindar was instrumental in starting Gurdwara's in Edmonton, laying the foundations of the Interfaith Community, and finally authoring an interpretation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He never wavered from his principles or identity, and showed courage and dignity with every challenge that was presented to him. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you rise to the challenge of volunteering your time to those in need.
Beloved Virindar, Daddy, Grandpa is with Waheguru now. A wonderful life imprinted on this universe.
