Mildred I. Anderson (Peg, or Peggy as she preferred as a child and the last three years of her life) passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Lakeside Manor Memory Care Home with caregivers by her side. She had dementia and COPD for many years. Peggy was born to Edward Hirtzel and Edith Bonner in July 1932 and lived most of her life in the San Diego area.
Peggy went to Modesto High School. In 1951, she married Dick Harvey and together they raised three children: David, Cathie, and Judy. Even after their divorce, 18 years later, they still remained friends.
In 1972, she married Gordon (Andy) Anderson. She was an escrow officer most of her adult life, until she retired. During her marriage to Andy, she opened her own escrow office, GMA Escrow, in La Mesa and worked there for several years.
When her children were young, she loved going fishing and camping with them. She always enjoyed learning history and was so proud to be an American. In the middle of the 80’s, she separated from Andy and moved into her home in Mira Mesa. She lived near the high school and loved listening to the students when they were outside playing sports. Her wonderful neighbors, James and Trisha, were very special to her and an important part of her life. She really enjoyed living there. Chow Chow’s were her favorite dogs. Pandie, her latest Chow, lived with her for many years. Pandie was great company for her and a good protector as well. Peggy loved her very much.
Peggy loved being “Grandma”, and spending time with her grandchildren. Saturday lunches with Tim and Allie became a tradition that lasted several years. She was a very positive person, always looking at the bright side of things. Even in memory care, where she spent the last three years of her life, she would frequently say, “I’m so fortunate.”, and was very thankful for the care that she received there. When asked what she liked to do, her response would be that she loved to help people, often by just listening to them to help them feel better. She was always a great listener.
Peggy is survived by her brother, Jack, her children, David, Cathie, and Judy, her grandchildren, Tim and Allie, and her great grandchildren, Kinley, Ellie, and Judah.
