Arthur John “Art,” “Mr. Art,” “Artie” Kern Jr., 80, of Fallbrook, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Art was born on December 26, 1944, to the late Arthur John Kern Sr. and Elizabeth Kern. He grew up in spring valley, New York and later enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969, where he met the love of his life, the late Rachel Kern. The two were married for 47 years and together they raised two children, Rhonda Kern and Damien Kern.
After completing his military service, Art pursued his passion for beauty and style by studying cosmetology. His career allowed him to travel widely, and he became an accomplished cosmetologist, working alongside well-known brands such as Clairol and Wella. Art also shared his expertise as an educator, teaching at Ja Boutique and California Hair Design Academy, where he inspired and mentored countless students, passing on his knowledge and love for the craft.
Beyond his work, Art found joy in spending time with family, visiting casinos, drawing, and treasure hunting at thrift stores. Known for his impeccable style, he had a lifelong love for designer clothing and was always sure to stay perfectly accessorized.
Art will be remembered for his love, loyalty, and devotion—not only to Rachel, but to his family and many friends. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Kern; son, Damien Kern; three grandchildren, Breanna Vinson, David Winkler Jr., and Savanna Kern; and two great-grandchildren, Clover Winkler and Kayden Vinson.
A memorial service honoring Art will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at El Cajon Mortuary.
