Arthur “Art” Hector Vasquez, aged 72, a man who ignited laughter and warmth in the hearts of those around him, took his final checkered flag on January 21, 2024, in San Diego, CA. Born in Yuma, AZ, on May 12, 1951, Art's life was a joyride filled with humor, care, and the love of a good engine.
With humor as a constant companion, Art never missed an opportunity to inject a bit of playfulness into any situation. His caring nature was no hidden treasure; he generously shared it, ensuring everyone around him felt valued and taken care of. Art's creativity and strong work ethic were the gears that drove his 30-year career at SDG&E, where he located more than just underground lines—he found friendships.
When not navigating the roads of his career, Art could be found burning rubber on the racetrack, admiring the sleek lines of classic cars, or crafting masterpieces through welding and metal fabrication. A true fisherman at heart, he knew that the best catch wasn't always at the end of the line, but in the stories shared at the end of the day.
Art's legacy isn't just in the cars he restored but in the lives he touched. His memory will be treasured like a rare vintage car: priceless, unforgettable, and always in style.
Surviving Art's last lap are his significant other, Susan Owens; pit crew (children) RoseAna Douglas (husband Jeremy), Elisa Maginnis (husband Cody) and Arthur Vasquez; his adoring fans (grandchildren) Jodeci, Valencia, Zachary, Arlo, Ashley, Joss, Marissa, and Matthew; and his steadfast team of siblings Elisa, Frank, Felipa, Margarita, Nadine, and Alex. He now joins in the great garage in the sky his parents, Ramon and Maria, his brothers, Ramon and Tommy, and granddaughter, Ariel, who have all crossed the finish line before him.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 3rd from 1pm to 3pm at El Cajon Mortuary and Cremation Service, 684 S Mollison Ave, El Cajon, CA 92020. In honor of Art, please wear a car or racing shirt, if possible.
