It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Daniel Romero Jr. on Monday, February 27th, at the age of 96. Benjamin was born on May 23rd, 1926, to his loving parents Benjamin D. Romero Sr. and Beatrice Romero-Rivers.
He was a devoted Catholic who lived his life in accordance with his faith, and his unwavering devotion to God was evident in everything he did.
Benjamin was a proud veteran who served honorably in both WWII and the Korean Conflict, earning numerous awards and accolades for his bravery and dedication to his country. He was a true patriot who exemplified the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice.
After his military service, Benjamin worked for American Pipe and was involved in laying water pipe for San Vicente Reservoir. He then worked for the San Diego Water Department for over 40 years, dedicating himself to ensuring that his community had access to clean and safe water. Even after his retirement, he continued to give back to his community by volunteering for the California Highway Patrol.
Benjamin was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Josephine “Sister” Romero Curo-Rodriguez, who is now the tribe's eldest member. He was a devoted brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He was also a friend, mentor, and role model to many others in the community.
Benjamin and Sister have five children, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
His legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved him. Benjamin will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering faith, selfless service to his country and community, and his loving presence will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his family find comfort and solace in the memories of his life, the love he shared with everyone and knowing he is now in heaven, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
A visitation for Benjamin will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM at El Cajon Mortuary & Cremation Service, 684 South Mollison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020. A rosary service will occur Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 684 South Mollison Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020. A mass of christian burial will occur Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, 1095 Barona Road, Lakeside, CA 92040. A graveside service will occur Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Barona Indian Reservation Cemetery, 1095 Barona Road, Lakeside, CA 92040.
