The family of Betty Jean Howie announce with great sorrow the passing of her on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Betty was born in San Diego, California on April 17, 1933, to Jose Culberto Montalvo of Aguas Caliente, Mexico, and to Herminia Lucia Zamorano Montalvo of Los Angeles, California. She passed peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Lakeside, CA.
Betty was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph Cathedral in San Diego, California. Soon after graduating Betty met a man who would become the love of her life, her soul mate, Joseph (Joe) Howie. Joe was born in Illinois, traveled through San Diego during the war and returned, which is when he met Betty. In 1952 they were wed and Betty became the step-mother of three daughters from Joe’s prior marriage. Together, Betty and Joe went on to have four daughters and two sons. In 2013, Joe passed after 60-years of marriage, but they will once again unite in eternity at Singing Hills Memorial Park in El Cajon, California.
Betty had four older siblings that precede her, Carlos, Consuelo, Manuel and Carmen. Betty is survived by her three stepdaughters, her six children, 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She loved having a large family and was proud of all.
