Carla Marina Garcia

Carla Marina Garcia was bon October 22, 1975, in San Diego, California. She grew up in National City and surrounding areas in the City of San Diego. She eventually attended and graduated from Sweetwater High School.

Carla Garcia joined the San Diego Sheriff's Department on April 9, 1999, as a correctional deputy. She graduated from the 36th Correctional Academy and successfully completed Phase Training at the Las Colinas Detention Facility, Santee, CA. On June 1, 2018, Deputy Garcia successfully completed the In-Service Training for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Transportation Unit.

Deputy Garcia was a very compassionate and true friend in the Transportation Unit. She eventually retired on January 1, 2024, desiring to be a full-time mother.

As a loving wife and mother, Carla Garcia married Luis Benavides in Costa Rica, and together they raised two children: Isabella Benavides and Joshua Benavides.

Her family was her greatest joy and she dedicated her life supporting, loving, and guiding them.

Carla Garcia loved the beach and adored spending time with her two children, playing in the sand or at the park. Carla Garcia was a very strong, independent and beautiful wife and mother to her family.

On March 25, 2025, Carla Garcia passed away to be with the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Luis Benavides, her two children, Isabela and Joshua Benavides, all of whom adored her.

In addition, she is survived by her mother Maria Luisa Medina, sister Marcela Velazco and brother Francisco Velazco, and many other family members.

She touched many lives, grew up loving animals and her smile left an impact on peoples lives. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
