Clarence Russell Mascari was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, after a brief bout of cancer. He was born on April 10, 1938, in Racine, Wisconsin to Lawrence G. Mascari and Madaline (Doherty) Mascari. He was the fifth of eight children. His family relocated to San Diego, California in 1946. He graduated from Saint Augustine High School, class of 1956, where he played football and met the love of his life. He married Beverly Buchanan on June 8, 1957 and they started their family while he worked his way through college at San Diego State and coached football at Nazareth House School.
Clarence, Dad, Papa, Papa C, Super C, Big C, Uncle C was loved by everyone who met him. His contagious smile, genuine warmth, and great sense of humor lit up any room. He was an avid sports fan and an incredible Papa to his thirteen grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Mascari, four children, Debbie Principe and husband Tim of San Diego, Therese (Terry) Smith of Lakeside, Martin (Marty) Mascari and wife Leslie of Pilot Point, Texas and Michelle Carter of El Cajon and thirteen grandchildren Adam Smith, Bryan Smith and wife Emma, Craig Smith and wife Simone, Brendan Carter and wife Sarah, Bradley Carter, Christopher Principe and wife Julia, Joseph Mascari and wife Grace, Matthew Carter, Jenna Principe, Jordan Mascari, Katherine (Katie) Mascari, Madeline Mascari and Gracie McEwen and three great grandchildren Rowan Smith, Weston Smith and Leela Smith. He is also survived by four brothers, Mike Mascari and wife Katherine of La Mesa, Lawrence Mascari and wife Diane of La Mesa, Frank Mascari and wife Bernice of Spring Valley and Phillip Mascari and wife Beverly of San Diego and two sisters, Alma Casey of San Jose, CA and Mary Krenek and husband Dave of San Jose, CA and sister-in-law Kathleen Mascari of Temecula as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Mascari and Madaline Mascari, brother William Mascari, Sister-in-laws Edwina Mascari and Betty Mascari, brother-in-laws Mike Casey and Richard Carpenter, two children Mary Helen Mascari and Matthew James Mascari and nephew, Brian Lynam.
There will be a Rosary on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 7:00 pm, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE OF LOCATION), 13208 Lakeshore Drive, Lakeside, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 10:00am, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. A lunch will follow Mass in the OLPH Social Center. Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
