Cynthia Anne Beard’s life began as the world’s best Christmas gift, December 25th 1941 in Iowa to Anne and Delbert Trailer. Cynthia, her mother and then three siblings; Frank, MaryAlice, and Ed, made the harrowing journey by train only months after her arrival from Iowa to California. Her youngest sister Kristine joined the crew of siblings five years later, and so the Trailer family was complete.
Cindy, as her friends and family warmly refer to her, spent her youth happily playing in the Southern California sun. Always an athletic and social person she loved any sport and aimed to become a PE teacher!
Soon a dashing young sailor, Samuel Beard, literally swept her off her feet via a coup Jaguar sports car. Marriage and babies quickly followed, first a beautiful daughter Kimberly then daredevil son Randy. Cindy worked hard for her family, spending time as a skilled seamstress in a parachute factory and then over 20 years as a manager for VONS grocery. Through her time coaching little league, and serving her community at their local grocery store, she became beloved and well-known in their local east county-town of Santee. Hardly could she run an errand without a friendly neighbor hollering “Hey Cindy!”. Cindy was known to run a tight ship both at home as, her son will lovingly attest, and at work. Cindy set the bar high for herself and taught hard-work and dedication by example.
When Samuel was called home, she spent her retirement alongside Bill Naylor. The two developed a reputation as a traveling duo exploring the country in their motorhome, leaving a trail of laughter and cookies in their wake!
Cindy was known to have an adventurous spirit imbued with a deep love of nature. She summited several peaks including but not limited to; Half Dome and Mount Whitney. She used her skills as a seamstress to create fabulous costumes for the youth productions of her local church, made beautiful garden decor and created pine needle baskets.
Cindy joined a joyous heavenly party on March 14th, 2024. She will be reverently remembered for her infinite strength, selfless character and her willingness to aid any and all.
Cindy is preceded in death by her husband Samuel, her daughter Kimberly, sisters MaryAlice and Kristine, brother Frank and partner Bill. She is survived by her brother Ed of Santee, California, her son Randy Beard of Lakeside, California, her granddaughter Ashley of Sacramento, California and her many great grandchildren.
If you would like to make a donation in Cindy’s name, her family would appreciate if you would consider Project Wildlife of the San Diego Humane Society (Project Wildlife
