Everett Shackelton, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, of Santee, CA, passed away on January 14, 2021 from cancer at the age of 79 with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Sue, son Dennis, daughter in law Lori, daughter Linda, grandson Riley, and granddaughter Morgan. He was born in Esbon, Kansas on January 26, 1941 to Merely and Berneice Shackelton, and raised in Red Cloud, NE with his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1959 with his twin brother Eustace. While in high school, Everett bought a 1934 Ford Sedan for $50 and has owned it ever since. He joined the US Army after high school where he was stationed at Ft. Huachuca, AZ and then France, then after the army he moved to San Diego, where he met his wife Sue of 51 years. He was employed at General Dynamics for over 25 years. He was a former member of The Scotchman Car Club and an active member of the Over the Hill Gang San Diego. Everett enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Whether it was camping, attending car shows or vacationing out of state, Everett always ran into someone he knew. It became the standing family joke of who Dad was going to know on their next adventure. His neighbors looked forward to his daily walks when he would stop and talk to anyone who was outdoors. He could always be counted on for a great story and a sarcastic comment. He will be truly missed by all.
