Frances Lopez, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and beloved aunt, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 85, at home in San Diego, California. Born on April 2, 1940, in Arizona, Frances was the daughter of Leonardo Armenta and Tomasa Esquivel.
Frances found joy in creating a loving home for her children, Elaine and Greg Lopez, and for her many nieces and nephews who adored her. She was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine brightly in the memories of her family and friends.
Frances spent her early years in Arizona, where her appreciation for nature began to blossom. After high school, she embraced her role as a homemaker with grace and dedication, always prioritizing the comfort and happiness of her family. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, warmth, and the delicious scents of her baking—a true reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Widowed later in life, Frances faced every challenge with resilience and quiet strength. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loved ones, especially her nieces and nephews, who were drawn to her like moths to a flame. She had a special gift for connecting with children, showering them with love and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
Gardening was among Frances’s greatest passions. She found peace in nurturing her plants and cultivating beautiful flowers—especially those in her favorite color, purple, a reflection of her vibrant personality. Each bloom in her garden symbolized her love for life and her appreciation for the world’s simple beauty.
Baking was another of Frances’s many joys. She took pride in preparing her family’s favorite recipes and delighted in welcoming visitors with homemade treats. Her kitchen was a place where love was baked into every batch of cookies, and her warm hospitality made everyone feel at home. The memories of gathering around her table will remain forever in the hearts of those who shared those moments with her.
Frances’s life was a testament to the power of love, the joy of family, and the beauty found in life’s simple pleasures. She will be remembered not only for her talents in the garden and kitchen, but for the warmth of her spirit and the depth of her love for those around her.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband Philip and is survived by her devoted daughter, Elaine Lopez, her son, Greg Lopez, granddaughter Kelsey Lopez and devoted son in law Chris Sterger.
As we say our final goodbyes, may we carry forward Frances’s unwavering love and kindness, honoring her memory in the way we live our lives. She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her, a community that will remember her warmth, and a garden that will forever bloom in her honor.
Rest in peace, dear Frances. You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
