Growing up, Jim was the oldest of five siblings: Cathy, Mike, Pam, and Linda. He was a devoted son to his parents, James and Lorraine Murphy. In high school, Jim was an avid pole vaulter and loved playing football. These passions sparked his lifelong love of college football and sports.
But sports were only part of the story. One of his greatest loves was stand-up comedy. Jim always loved making people smile and laugh. To him, that was everything. If he could make you laugh, he had done his job.
Jim spent years growing his business, working hard and building friendships across the United States. At home, you’d find him on summer nights at the Moonlight Amphitheater watching musicals and picnicking with his daughter, Savannah, or spending hours at Barnes & Noble reading and playing cards with his son, Austin.
When you think of Jim, you think of coffee brewing, his unmistakably beautiful handwriting, and long phone calls that somehow lasted forever and still weren’t long enough. Whatever it was, he always left a smile on your face.
Jim is survived by his two children, Savannah and Austin, along with his close family and many dear friends— all of whom are likely hearing his voice in their heads right now with one last punchline.
In true Jim fashion:
“To my beloved friends, there’s simply no life without you guys. Thanks for the advice and the love and the billion dinners and laughs. Without you all… I’d look for new friends and get them.” — Martin Short, comedian
Always remembered, never forgotten.
