Jennie Frances Evans, daughter of the late Stanley and Ursula Gabrs passed away on Sunday March 06, 2016 in La Mesa, Ca. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Evans and her grandson Thomas James Parker. She was born in Athol Massachusetts. She was a hard working waitress and a great provider to her three sons. She moved her family to Chula Vista, Ca. in 1962. At that time she was able to become a homemaker and enjoy many hobbies.
One of her passions was dancing. She and Don were known for their grace and elegance on the dance floor. She loved to Polka and she kept up with the times as well and didn’t hesitate to join in on line dancing at several of the grandchildren’s weddings.
Jennie enjoyed cooking and is still known for several of her delicious Lithuanian dishes. Many of these recipes have been passed on to her sons, daughter-in laws and grandchildren. There is nothing she loved more than gathering family together for a good meal and conversation and reminiscing of times past.
She was an avid outdoors person who loved gardening. She was always so proud of her tomatoes, and would even photograph them… She also enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with friends and family and you would never leave empty handed when the garden was in full bloom.
Jennie and Don loved to travel and experienced many memorable vacations. They were also members of “The Roamers” camping club and drove their motorhome near and far. Jennie loved fishing and was quite the fisherman, often times providing dinner for her and fellow campers. She also enjoyed playing cards and continued to do so throughout her life. She was very adventurous and even zip lined in Hawaii and took a Segway tour at the age of 85. She was always ready to try something new. She was frugal to a fault and took great pride in the legacy she would pass on to her family.
She is survived by a large loving family, her son Eugene & his wife Diana Parker of La Mesa, CA; her son Thomas & his wife Chris Parker of Grants Pass, OR. and her son Robert & his wife Wendy Parker of Escondido, CA. She has 6 grandchildren; Greg & his wife Julie Parker, Garry Parker, Michelle Parker; Jonny & his husband Mike Parker Kwok, Eric & his wife Lisa Parker and Bryan & his wife Kyla Parker. Her great grandchildren are Cole, Paige, Logan, Emma, Jonah, Preslee, Lily, Alexus, Harley, Ashlyn, Summer, Ian, Breanna, Brett, Chase, Miya and Kento. She is also survived by Don’s son Kevin and his wife Sylvia and Don’s grandson Steve and his wife Shawna and his children; Michael, Dillon, Josiah & Brooke. She will be remembered for her strength, perseverance and her love of family. She will truly be missed.
Memorial services will be Saturday March 19 @ 2:00 p.m. at El Cajon Mortuary. A celebration of life will follow at the home of Gene & Diana Parker; 4296 Camino Alegre, La Mesa CA.
