

John Richard Doughty, 87, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 11, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio, John moved to California as a child when his father was transferred there while serving in the U.S. Navy. He grew up with strong family values and a deep sense of responsibility that would guide him throughout his life.
John met the love of his life, Jane, in 1956, and the two were married in 1960. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Together they raised three children and created a strong and loving family that was always at the center of John’s heart. His family grew to include one son-in-law, two daughters-in-law, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a 36-year career with Price Club, which later became Costco. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the friendships he built over the years.
John will be remembered for his kind spirit, steady wisdom, and the way he made everyone around him feel valued. Whether sharing a story, lending a helping hand, or offering words of encouragement, he had a gift for making others feel cared for.
He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, compassion, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at The El Cajon Mortuary on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Care at Sharp Hospital in John’s memory.
