Judy was born on February 28, 1944 to Robert and Theresa Bjorstrom in Alexandria, Minnesota. In 1952, the family moved to San Diego. After graduating from Mount Miguel High School, she attended Kelsey Jenney Business College, which led to a 50-year career as a secretary and bookkeeper in the hospitality/hotel industry.
While working for an ambulance company right after business school, Judy met Robert Bacigalupi. They married and, in 1965, had a son, Michael.
An avid bowler, Judy was a fixture at Golden Bowl from the 1970s into the ‘90s, then at El Cajon Bowl, and, finally, at Parkway Bowl.
Another of Judy's passions was crafting, with her main focus, in recent years, being on quilting. She and a small circle of friends usually spent their Saturdays in her garage, quilting for the Warrior Foundation — Freedom Station. They were honored last year for their donations of at least a hundred quilts and sets of placemats for wounded veterans over the past few years — not to mention the thousands of dollars she raised for them with the “Swear Jar” she always brought to the bowling alley.
When not bowling or crafting, Judy was usually playing cards with her family, enjoying movies, or reading.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobby, and her ex-husband. She is survived by her son, her sister and brother-in-law Susan and Tom Shaddox, many cousins, her nephews Shane Bjorstrom and Bobby and Billy Shaddox, her niece Tara Meade, and their families.
Per her wishes, a private graveside ceremony will be held for family members.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Warrior Foundation -- Freedom Station.
