Laurie Ellen Hebert

Laurie Ellen Hebert was the youngest child of Hilmer Jeffrey and Ulma Louise Garrett Jeffrey. She spent most of her childhood in El Cajon, California, with a brief time living in San Antonio, Texas, during high school. Her family later returned to Santee, California, where Laurie graduated from Santana High School in 1975. She went on to attend Grossmont College.

In 1979, Laurie began her career with the El Cajon Police Department, where she met the love of her life, Bruce. They were married at Holy Trinity Church on July 30, 1983, and shared nearly 43 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving home and raised two children, Brianne and Christopher.

While Laurie cherished being a mother, becoming a grandmother was the role she treasured most. She adored her granddaughters, Makenna and Alexa, and hoped to welcome many more grandchildren in the years ahead. Being "the girls'" Grammy was her greatest joy, and the love she shared with them was immeasurable.

Laurie was a woman of many talents and passions. She enjoyed painting with watercolors, often creating beautiful handmade cards for family celebrations and special occasions. She loved crafting for the holidays and had a lifelong passion for horses and horseback riding. Her happiest days were spent in the saddle.

Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. Laurie always felt a deep devotion to God and a special connection to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Having grown up near Holy Trinity Church, she fondly remembered attending Mass there with friends as a child. In 1984, she embraced the Catholic faith, a decision that brought her great peace and purpose. She and Bruce became devoted parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, where they generously served their parish community, including co-chairing the annual church Jamboree for many years alongside dear friends.

Following her retirement from the El Cajon Police Department, Laurie continued her life of service as a Kindergarten Aide at Holy Trinity School. She found immense joy in working with young children, taking the time to know each one individually. Her kindness, patience, compassion, and unwavering encouragement left a lasting impression on countless students, each of whom she wanted to know they were uniquely valued and deeply loved.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Hilmer and Ulma Jeffrey; her brothers, Tillman "Bud" Jeffrey, Dennis Jeffrey, and Robert "Steve" Jeffrey; and other cherished family members.

She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Bruce Hebert; her daughter, Brianne Hebert Maxwell; her son, Christopher Hebert; her beloved grandchildren, Makenna Hebert and Alexa Maxwell; her sister, Carolyn Wright; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, godchildren, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her loyalty, generosity, compassion, and unwavering love.

During her courageous, yet short battle with cancer, Laurie was surrounded by the love of her family and comforted by the prayers and sacraments of the Catholic Church. She passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass celebrating Laurie's life and steadfast faith will be held at Holy Trinity Church in El Cajon, California, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Miramar National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m., with a reception immediately afterward at the Alpine Women's Club from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
