Lorraine was born on July 25th, 1961 in Sparks, Nevada to parents Lucy and Gabe. Throughout her childhood, she called several places home, moving from Sparks, to Boise, Idaho, then Northern California, before settling in San Diego, California, where she would spend most of her adult life.
Lorraine’s most relished moments were those in which she was able to watch her children grow into their most authentic selves. Her early life was spent building an unbreakable bond with her older brother Greg. Their mother Lucy recalls the parties they would throw without their parents knowing and how Greg would take Lorraine wherever he went. He would even take her on his dates with his wife Joanne when they first started dating, because Lorraine was not allowed to go on dates yet. Their friendship grew through adulthood, and they journeyed through life side by side. They raised their children together, Lorraine was Godmother to Greg & Joanne’s three children and they were Godparents to hers. The two families spent so much time together, many of which were Friday nights enjoying food, music and each other’s company.
Lorraine loved music and dance. As a teen, she took Hula lessons and grew to share her love of Hula with her children. She would dance in the living room of their home in Santee and even threw Hula themed birthday parties for her daughter Angel, who shares her love for dancing. Her father, Gabe, was a mariachi for many years and she adored the tradition. She filled her home with music and celebrated her Mexican heritage.
In her professional life, Lorraine worked mainly in banking and retail. She excelled at Washington Mutual Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and Coach Retail for upwards of three decades. Everywhere she worked, she made lasting connections with her community. She threaded empathy, compassion, and purpose into how she helped her customers. So much so, that she kept a keep-sake box full of thank you notes from people whose lives she impacted.
During her professional life, she met her best friend Lisa. Their relationship would last over 30 years and be filled with belly laughs, family trips, and cherished sisterhood. Lisa, lovingly known as “Nina Chicha,” would become an aunt to Lorraine’s kids and, most notably, a Godmother to her youngest son Jacob.
Lorraine was fiercely devoted to God. She found consistent peace and comfort in her prayers through all of life’s trials. She ensured her children grew up in the Catholic faith as well, sending them to Catholic school and raising them to honor the church.
Above all, Lorraine was known for loving her children. She cheered from the stands at every game, flew across the country to sit front row at each performance, made every holiday special, and beamed with pride at every graduation. Her purpose was her children. She also took great pride in being a loving aunt to her brother’s children, Michelle, Anthony, and Daniel. She took incredible care to love them as her own, including their children. Some of Lorraine’s happiest moments were being surprised during her work day at the bank by family, recalling walking into the bank and hearing Lorraine yell, “my family!”
To Lorraine, life was about making people feel special and making even the most ordinary moments extraordinary. Her life was one of devotion to God, to family, and living life to the fullest. Her family commits to keeping her spirit alive by celebrating the love she shared through all who were blessed to know and love her.
Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, where Lorraine was a parishioner, will hold a funeral mass February 3rd at 12:00 pm, 2766 Navajo Rd., El Cajon, CA 92020.
