Madeline was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Moizes and Mathilda Freitas on December 10, 1928. She came to San Diego in 1945 and shortly afterwards met the love of her life Joe Qualin. They were married August 12, 1947 and raised two children: Mary Anne Owen (Jerry) and Joe Qualin Jr (Susan). Their marriage lasted 63 years until the death of Joe in 2010.
In her life, (Madeline and Joe), were given six grandchildren: Shawn and Daryle Owen, John (Jenni), Brian (Gina), James (Kara), and Julie Heller (Nate) Qualin. She was also blessed with twelve great grandchildren: Cameron, Cooper, Jordyn, and Nathan Owen, plus Dylan, Deven, Allie, Noah, Dawson and Harrison Qualin, and Avery and Emma Heller. These were all her babies and all adored her until her death.
Madeline is survived by one younger brother, Salvador (Lucille) Freitas and numerous nieces and nephews. She is surpassed in death by her husband, her older brother Arnold, and younger sister Margie.
Madeline was very proud of her Portuguese heritage and traditions and also her Catholic faith. These, along with her family, made her life complete.
We know she is now in heaven with her beloved Joe, dwelling in the house of the Lord.
