

Norma was born in San Diego, California to Ignacio and Virginia Diaz on March 10, 1929. She graduated from San Diego High School in 1947. She married Relio J Cabrera on July 14, 1950 in San Diego. She worked as a bookkeeper for Westgate Cannery for twenty-five years. She was a successful business woman along with her late husband. In the late 1960’s, Norma and Joe operated two Baskin-Robbins in San Diego and then in 1974 ventured to Oahu to open and operate the first two Baskin-Robbins on the island of Hawaii. She also owned the Original Pancake House in Tampa, Florida; Howard Johnson Ice Cream Parlor in San Diego, California; Cabrera Lock and Key in San Diego, California; and then continued the operation of another Baskin-Robbins in Spring Valley, California in legacy of her late son Joe Jr.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents Ignacio and Virginia Diaz, her late husband Joe Sr., and her son Joe Jr.
Norma is survived by her daughter Rose (Douglas) Barge, daughter Michelle V. Lopez, daughter Susan (Michael) Carey, son Andrew (Mika) Cabrera and daughter Christina (Brian) Dymond. She had eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Norma loved her bookkeeping, to read books late at night, travel (last adventure to Jamaica), work on the family genealogy and pay frequent visits to Barona!
Norma was a strong woman of grace with beautiful character and a strong love for others. She was an angel on earth.
A mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00am at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 9410 Dalehurst Road, Santee, California 92071. A reception will follow after mass in the church hall for family and friends.
