Mrs. Paula Hogan Duran (also known as Paula Kay Hogan; Paula Kay (Sharp) Riley) died due to complications from dementia at 11:19 pm on October 6th, 2020 in San Diego, CA at the age of 75. Paula is survived by her husband, Charles Duran; children, John Hogan and Terrence Hogan; Grandchildren, Joshua Hogan, Harley Hogan, and Hannah Hogan. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Leon Hogan, who was injured when a faulty projectile detonated on the Heavy Cruiser USS Newport News (CA–148). He died from his injuries 6 years later, September 17, 1979, leaving Paula a widow at the age of 35. Paula was born on December 23rd, 1944 in Oklahoma City, OK to father, Clayborn (Claberne) James Riley 1921-1991 and mother, Norma Jean Riley 1923-1995. She graduated from El Cajon Valley High School in the class of 1963. She married at the age of 21 to Warren Leon Hogan on May 29, 1965. After the prolonged death of her first husband, Paula put herself through college and raised her two sons as a single mother in San Diego. She provided them the moral foundations and the value of self-worth from which they built their own careers and families. On Dec 7, 2005 Paula remarried to retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant Charles Duran. She loved and was dearly loved by two devoted and caring husbands throughout her life. Paula’s career covered working at the Corky McMillin Companies, Rohr Aerospace, Equitable Insurance, and many jobs in between. She was always considered a valued employee in those organizations. She loved teaching Sunday school at Raleigh Heights Baptist Church when her children were young, her two dogs, Sparky and Cookie, the California coastline, Mexican coffee in Old Town, and her family. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

The family would like to thank Parkview Memory Care at Paradise Village in National City, CA. for their devotion to Paula throughout the last phase of her life.
