Peter was born in La Jolla, CA and attended Ocean Beach Elementary School. His family moved to Oregon where he graduated from Drain High School. Peter worked for he water district in Montague, CA before returning to San Diego. In San Diego, Peter found a career with Pacific Telephone where he worked installation/repair before being promoted and retiring after 30 years as a level 2nd Manager.
In retirement, Peter enjoyed wood carving, serving as President of the Craft-T Carvers, shooting trap and skeet, competitive shooting and serving several terms as President of the Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club. For many years, he completed the maintenance work of the antique carousel at Balboa Park. Peter enjoyed tractors and drove them in several local parades. His many hobbies included: cycling, sailing, traveling, hiking and camping in Death Valley, Photography, and reading history books. Peter made many lifelong connections and friendships along he way.
Peter's most favorite of all past times was his devotion & love for his family. He never hesitated to share his wicked sense of humor in training his grandkid. He enjoyed spending time at every award ceremony, ball game, and other life events his grandkids had going at the time.

Peter is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Hopkins; his son Glenn P. Hopkins of El Cajon, California; his daughter Tracy A. Fitchhorn (Dan) of El Cajon, California; and his son-in-law Marc Brodie (Lisa) of El Cajon, California; his sister Linda Hooks (Otto) of Jacksonville, Florida; his granddaughter Jaime Colvin (Alan), his granddaughter Candace Hopkins, his grandson Brett Hopkins (Leah), his grandson Kyle Fitchhorn (Mae), his granddaughter Brianna Harvey (George) and his grandson Ryan Fitchhorn.
Peter was preceded in death by his father Theodore Hopkins and his mother Frances Hopkins; his daughter Cheryle Hopkins; his brother Theodore Hopkins and his sister Nancy Moore.
