Ray was born on October 23rd, 1951 to Harry and Lorretta Bratton in Cleveland, Ohio where he was raised. Ever studious, Ray received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree at Akron University, where he also met his bride, Judith Fittante.
Ray spent his engineering career working for several companies in Ohio and later in California, where he and Judy made their home for the past several decades. But while he found satisfaction in his work, his greatest joy was his family. Together, Ray and Judy raised three children—Steven (Cheryl), Andrew (Jennifer), and Sharon (David)—who blessed them with eight beloved grandchildren: Tabitha, Katelyn, Anna, Ian, Ellie, Ainsley, Sophie, and Lainey.
To know Ray was to know kindness, humility, and quiet strength. He lived with a servant’s heart and a steadfast love for God and his family. He volunteered at his church, turned neighborhood walks into opportunities to befriend neighbors, and enjoyed singing with the Tremble Clefs choir. He was always quick with a pun or playful “dad joke,” was a quiet but tough competitor at the card table, and around his grandchildren he was endlessly patient, playful, and proud.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Judith; their children and grandchildren; his sister, Colletta (Bill) Lieber; and his brother, Donald (Joy) Bratton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lorretta.
Ray’s family takes comfort in knowing he is now fully whole and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus, the One he trusted and followed throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations towards Youth Venture, a ministry that helps the youth in Ray’s community. You can do this through Foothills Christian Church in El Cajon.
