Pastor Burkey has been an ordained Lutheran Minister for 38 years. Serving at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Camden, AR and at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bartow, FL. Pastor Burkey has been at Christ Lutheran Church in La Mesa for 26 years. He was serving as the Senior Pastor at Christ Lutheran. He will be remembered for his dedication to the Lord and his commitment to his congregation.
Richard's first love in Jesus, followed by Sharon and the rest of his family. He was an avid reader and sports fan. Richard enjoyed the National Parks and traveling through them. Richard had a great sense of humor and a love of Chocolate and donuts.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Burkey; his daughter Laura Courvoisier (Kevin) of Costa Mesa, California; and his daughter Dana Peterson (Christopher) of Costa Mesa, California; his mother Edna Burkey of Lakeland, Florida; his brother Dean Burkey of Lakeland, Florida and his sister Lisa Mowry of Chicago, Illinois; his granddaughter Lillian Courvoisier and his grandson Owen Courvoisier.
Richard was preceded in death by his father John Burkey.
