Born in Gloucester Massachusetts, just days after her parents were processed through Ellis Island, Rosalie was the first US Citizen in her Family! She was the 3rd born of 8 children & the first girl….and what a girlie girl she was! From age 13, she never put the lipstick down! Glamour all the time! If you know, you know!
Even though she was born during the great depression, the determination, & grit of her hard working parents saw them through & taught her many lessons about life. By age 5, her family of then 6 left the bitter cold of New England & headed out west to settle in Little Italy in San Diego. In 1950, Rosalie married Prince Charming & for those who knew the life of love and care her husband Antonio (Tony) provided—you would agree that she truly found her Prince. They met by way of introduction through a family friend. Having mastered the English language in the WWII Prisoner War camps, Tony captured Rosalie’s heart through literary romance, exchanging letters everyday for a year. In the Spring of 1950 they met in person, in Italy, where they were married. Incidentally, Rosalie kept every single ‘love’ letter and in following her strict instructions, all of them will be buried with her today! Rosalie devoted her life to family; Her love & care unmatched & rooted in kindness, loyalty & quiet strength. Though naturally soft spoken, she was well read, curious & creative! A super fun Nanna! She will be deeply missed & there will be many moments of reflection; some with a chuckle, a tear, even a roaring laugh but all the memories will be precious! We love you Mom!
Dear Family & Friends:
Thank you for being here today to remember and lay our mother Rosalie to rest. Our family feels incredibly fortunate to have had her in our lives all the way to her 96½ birthday. As far as we know, she was the longest-living person on either side of the family tree — a blessing that gave us so many extra years of her care & love.
Today we find ourselves in that tender place where grief and gratitude live side by side. We grieve the loss yet we are deeply grateful for the long and beautiful life she lived and for the many memories she leaves behind. Mom was loving, giving, gentle, soft-spoken, and unfailingly loyal — a devoted Mother, Mother-in-law, and extra special Grandmother (Nanna) and Great-Grandmother (Big Nanna). She was the best Sister, Auntie Ro, and dear friend.
While our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the belief that Mom is now experiencing a joyful reunion in heaven — especially with our dad, the love of her life. That thought brings us great peace. She missed him so much..
Thank you for being here today to pray for her eternal rest and to acknowledge a life well lived. St Therese of the Little Flower, pray for us and for Rosalie!
Thank you,
Phyllis, Vince, Catherine &
Family
