Roy Aron Nelson, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a revered member of his community, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on October 27, 1935, in Minnesota, Roy lived a full and vibrant life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
Roy was the cherished son of Carl Edmund Nelson and Myrtle Helen Strandberg, whose love and guidance shaped him into the compassionate person he became. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Jendro Nelson, whose spirit will continue to inspire their family. Roy also mourned the loss of his parents, Carl and Myrtle, as well as his in-laws, Donald and Bernice Sawyer, son-in-law Robert Crockett, grandson Robert Crockett II, and several aunts and uncles.
Roy is survived by his children, Deborah Crockett, Mike Nelson, and Dennis Nelson, along with his sister, Ruby Lizkow. He was a proud father-in-law to Liz Nelson and treasured the presence of his brothers-in-law, Ted Lizkow and Gary Sawyer, and sister-in-law, Darlene Sawyer. His legacy continues through five adoring grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as four nephews and one niece, all of whom carry forward the values he instilled in them.
A graduate of high school, Roy served honorably in the Navy for five years as an electrical mechanic, a testament to his dedication and service to his country. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career at Western Electric, where he worked for over 30 years as a field engineer. His journey began humbly as a box boy at a grocery store, but his hard work and determination led him to accomplish great things.
Roy's involvement in the community was profound. He was a proud member of the Lutheran Church and enjoyed belonging to the casinos and, at one time, the Elks Lodge. He was actively engaged in his children’s lives, coaching their little league teams and fast-pitch softball teams, nurturing young talent and instilling the values of teamwork and perseverance.
In his personal life, Roy was passionate about the outdoors. He loved to bowl and played on his company's softball team, cherishing the camaraderie and fun that came with both. His vegetable and flower gardens were a source of pride and joy, where he spent countless hours nurturing his plants and enjoying the beauty of nature. Camping trips provided him with an opportunity to embrace the great outdoors, creating cherished memories with family and friends.
Roy Aron Nelson's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a commitment to serving others. A celebration of Roy’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of the man who brought light into their lives. Rest in peace, Roy. Your legacy of love will endure in the hearts of your family and friends.
