I was so sad to hear of Susie's passing and send my love and condolences to her family.
I loved growing up on Bestview Drive and Susie was such a big part of the neighborhood, always smiling and laughing, surrounded by a bunch of kids having fun and running in different directions.  We moved there when I was 4 years old and all the kids grew up together, riding bikes and swimming and roller-skating.  Susie had 4 great kids!  No one locked their doors in those days-it was idyllic.

I remember Susie hired me to iron her husband Dick's button-down shirts for 10 cents each, big money to me!  (My Mom had taught me to sew early on and ironing is a big part of making clothes.)  I have such fond memories of my Mom and Susie talking out on the sidewalk in front of Susie's house about whatever, just being friends.  I will always remember Susie's spunkiness and her pretty smile.  She was lovely and will be deeply missed.  Susie, rest in peace.

JOANIE CHRISTENSON MASKE MEMORY, PART 2:
As the kids grew, we shared the joys of their marriages and then grandkids. We leaned on each other during hard times too, when Dick got ill and died far too soon and I got a divorce. We were blessed beyond measure with such a wonderful friendship. 
When Susan became ill, we spent an afternoon reminiscing at her home about the mischief of our younger years. She told me it was the best day because she remembered all the stories we shared. Thank you, Susan, for all the love, laughter and friendship we shared, I will keep you in my heart forever. Enjoy your reunion with Dick.

JOANIE CHRISTENSON MASKE MEMORY, PART 1
With a heavy heart I send my condolences, love and prayers to the Omahen family, who have been a part of my life since 1964. Our 60-year friendship began on Bestview Drive in El Cajon, a very special neighborhood where the kids all grew up together. 
Shortly after moving in, Susan and Dick Omahen became our close friends. Susan and I had much in common; we both came from proud military families, had a brother, and spent early childhood in Alameda, CA. We shared the joys of watching our kids grow up. Days were filled with the kids going from home to home-the Omahen's, Christenson's/Maske's, Barrows', Gallion's and Spradlin's. 
There were new bikes and races, roller skates, bruised knees and broken bones. The girls loved playing with dolls. Maxine made beautiful Barbie outfits, and my girls had a big dollhouse in the garage and made cardboard furniture and napkin curtains. The kids all attended Pepper Drive School from K through 8th, with the parents at the PTA. 
We shared Halloween, birthday parties and swimming in the Omahen's huge pool. Susan was always up for an adventure, like dumpster hopping for carpet samples. We didn't have much money in the early days, so we glued the pieces together to make carpet for our kids' bedrooms. Then there was the Christmas candle making project, which turned out to be such a mess! We had finally become Lucy and Ethel from the TV show!
When our youngest daughter Jill was born, we asked Susan and Dick to be Godparents. Susan and I laughed over this since they were Catholic and we were not! Dick and Susan bought a boat at Lake Martinez and we soon followed them to the Colorado River for more fun! 
Dick, Bob, Jerry and Steve put their minds and money together and Bob made plans to build a beautiful dock which still stands today, a testament to lasting friendship.

Mrs Omahen was our neighbor two doors down. We had the greatest neighbors on Bestview Drive! I have so many wonderful memories of the Omahen family. Swimming in their above ground pool. Mrs Omahen gardening in the front yard. The first I learned about hair gel was when Mrs Omahen would use it to style Joanie and Jeannie’s hair. Mrs Omahen always had the best tan. Their fantastic house at the river.
She was a blessing❤️

Aunt Susie is going to be missed by the entire family.  Uncle Donald’s family had so many great memories with her, as well as your dad.  Rest in Peace, Aunt Susie.  We love you

The tiny lady across the street was in contrast to the tall one with me
Not a fan of domestication, cooking and cleaning might take a leave
The kids having fun without shoes or a sweater
She was a different breed but, whatever!
The boys played ball, the girls in strollers
I tagged along for years a big bonus daughter
There were weddings and babies and trips to the river
Senior day at the thrift stores would never evade her
Faith and family first, a fierce love for her brood
Her creative gifts and costumes could lift up your mood
After losing my uncle she would never waiver
It wasn't about her, there were grandkids to savor
She served us all well but, we knew what was in store
It was our turn to join in her journey and more
She brought us together to remember old stories
Until our Lord took her home to be in his Glory
I'll miss you my bonus mom, my aunt and my friend
Until I see you again - Heaven will be the beginning not the end
I love you Aunt Sue
Love on my family til I get there to do it myself!

GMA, Soupy, Sue will be missed!  She was there when I met my beautiful wife Jeanne and is partly to blame for Jeanne getting stuck with me!  God Bless her for she was an inspiration and leader of the Omahen Family.  She was beloved by her family, kids, especially her grandkids, and her great grandkids. God, then Family is how she rolled!  She rejoins Pop Pop so that they can laugh and dance together again! I am forever thankful for the gift of your daughter Jeanne and the family I became a part of! Rest in Peace and Grace, you did a wonderful job! Say hi to Pop Pop!
