Tommie Washington was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 26, 1964, to Tommie Preston Washington and Claudia Faye Washington. He was the oldest of two children. Tommie grew up in San Diego, where he attended Point Loma High School and began to cultivate his love for the military. He joined ROTC in high school and later enlisted in the United States Navy, following in his father’s footsteps.
During his time in the Navy, Tommie traveled the world, but he eventually returned home to care for his mother. Tommie was a die-hard football fan who loved his Miami Dolphins. He also enjoyed going to the movies—especially Marvel and science-fiction films—and sharing good meals with family and friends. He was the kind of man who could talk for hours about politics and comic books. Once he returned home from the military, he never left his mother’s side, a true testament to his deep love for his family.
Although he faced illness as he grew older, Tommie remained a devoted brother, uncle, and son. He sacrificed the opportunity to live on his own so that he could continue caring for his mother.
On October 30th, God called Tommie home to be with the Lord.
He leaves behind his mother, Claudia Washington; his brother, Reginald Washington; his niece, Renise Washington; his nephew, Seth Washington; and his sister-in-law, Shnika Washington, who cared for him during his most difficult times.
He is preceded in death by his father, Tommie Preston Washington, his grandparents, and a host of cousins, other close family members, and friends.
Tommie's final resting place will be at Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Nobel Dr. San Diego, CA 92122 on Monday, December 8th, 2025 at 1:30 pm.
