Vie Arlene Liddell, born May 1933, in Dolores, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in San Diego, California. Vie grew up on a ranch in Southwest Colorado milking cows, tending poultry, cultivating gardens and when time allowed, riding horses. Vie pursued nursing at the Sisters of Mercy School of Nursing in Denver. After graduating, she met her husband, Jim Liddell while working as a nurse at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver. Vie helped put Jim through pharmacy school and in 1962 they moved to San Diego. There they raised their 6 children and resided for more than 60 years. Once her children were out of elementary school she returned to work as a nurse. She served with dedication across several private practices before concluding her career at The Sycuan Medical Dental Center. Vie was a member of Santa Sophia Parish for over thirty years and was active in the early Cursillo Movement in the Catholic Diocese of San Diego. Animals held a special place in Vie’s heart; horses, dogs, cats and wild life. Taco, her cat, kept her company throughout the pandemic and beyond. Vie is survived by her sisters Amy and Theresa (Russ), her children: Mike (Janet), Kevin, Kathy (Peter), Denise, Tammy (Bill), Lisa (Jim), thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and much extended family across the country and beyond.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at Nazareth House in San Diego for their compassionate care during Vie’s final year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vie’s memory to Nazareth House/San Diego or L'Arche Seattle.
