Barbara Futch Scurlock, 80, of El Dorado, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. She was born July 30, 1938 to Alfred Preston and Reedie Opal Thrower Futch in Rayville, LA.
She earned her bachelors of science in nursing from Northwestern University and worked as a Registered Nurse at Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, LA. There she met her husband of 57 years, Bill Scurlock. She raised three children while remaining involved as a volunteer in church and community organizations. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Motet Choir. She was a long time member and leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She was active in the American Cancer Society, volunteered in medical missions, and served on the board at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother, and was a humble, gracious lady.
Preceding her in death are her parents and two brothers, Dr. Kenny Futch and Jerry Futch.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. William Ross Scurlock; three children, Dr. David Ross Scurlock of Atlanta, GA, Anne Scurlock Alderson of El Dorado, and Dr. John Preston Scurlock of Little Rock; siblings, Emmett Futch and Debbie Futch Watson; seven grandchildren, Lane Alderson, William Alderson, John Ross Scurlock, Caroline Scurlock, Michael Scurlock, Alexa Scurlock and Eric Ross Scurlock, and ten nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Young’s.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Waldo Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
