

Carl Louis Tillstrom, 88 of Shreveport, LA, formerly of El Dorado, passed away, Thursday, September 4, 2014, in Shreveport. He was born February 14, 1926, to Carl Bror and Elsie Mae Sindle Tillstrom in Monroe, LA.
Carl lived the first 17 years of his life in Pampa, TX and attended schools there. He was an Eagle Boy Scout and in his adult years, he served from time to time as both Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troops.
He served 2 ½ years in the Navy during WWII. Carl graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1948. After graduation, he worked as an engineer with Phillips Petroleum Co. in their refining department. He joined Lion Oil Co. at their El Dorado, AR refinery as an engineer in 1951. Carl rose thru increasing levels of responsibility to Manager of Engineering in 1972 and held that position until 1981. He was then assigned to manage a corporate program designed to improve maintenance at TOSCO’S four refineries. He was an active member of the American Petroleum Institute, National Petroleum Refiners Assoc. and American Society of Mechanical Engineers, was involved in the establishment of NPRA’s annual national convention promoting refinery maintenance and engineering, and was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arkansas.
Carl accepted early retirement in 1984 due to down-sizing by TOSCO. During retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and many interesting travel and learning experiences with Elderhostel and other travel agents. He enjoyed numerous hobbies and became an accomplished artisan in stained glass and wood turning. He made many items his for home and as gifts to family and friends.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1951 and served in many capacities. He was a deacon, served on committees responsible for two major remoldeling projects, a teacher of teenagers and adults, and a Sunday School Department leader.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Jerry Martin Tillstrom.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara Montgomery Tillstrom of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Eric Scot Tillstrom and his wife Ronda of Shreveport, Lee Allen Tillstrom and his wife Alexandria of Aurora, OH; and four grandchildren, Karin Ann and Laura Leigh Tillstrom of Shreveport, LA, and Andrew Mitchell and Margo Louise Tillstrom of Aurora, OH.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, Young’s Chapel with Rev. Brian Trostle officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
