

Chloe Ballard Holmes, 91, formerly of Urbana, AR, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, in College Station, TX. She and her twin brother Clyde were born on March 30, 1925, in Urbana, AR, to Mary Drucilla Shirey Ballard and Marcus David Ballard. She and her brother graduated at the top of their class in 1941 when her brother joined the Navy and she went to business school and took a wartime job in Washington, D.C. She returned to El Dorado, AR, and met and married Allie Bruce Holmes on November 17, 1945. They had a family of six daughters that they reared in Mathis, TX.
Chloe and her husband Allie were the co-owners/operators of Opti-Cap, Inc. She was a member of the Mathis Church of Christ, the Mathis Literary Club, the Cenizo Garden Club, the Mathis Parent-Teacher Association, the Mathis Band Boosters, the Corpus Christi New Neighbors Club, Ayers Street Church of Christ, the Hot Springs Village Church of Christ, and was an award-winning member of the Village Camera Club. She loved to travel and visited over eighty countries. She traveled with her grandchildren from coast to coast and to Hawaii.
Chloe was preceded in death by her husband Allie, her daughter Linda Diane, her parents, and her siblings Clyde, Jim, and Lois Ballard and Irene Ballard Waller. She is survived by her daughters Kathy Holmes Ritter (Tom), Becky Holmes Dumphy Cofer (Charlie), Alison Holmes Riley, Alane Holmes Nuzum (Robert), and Cherry Holmes. She leaves behind eleven loving grandchildren; Tiffany, Emily, Natalie, Burnley, Allie, Meredith, Melanie, Trey, Cage, Kelly and Erika along with fourteen great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Young’s Funeral Directors, 508 Champagnolle Road in El Dorado, AR with services at 11:00 A. M. in Young's Chapel with Tommy Bennett officiating. The burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in El Dorado, AR. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider the Urbana Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
