Lane, I'm sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I actually thought of Mrs. Fernald yesterday when I heard a mariachi band sing Feliz Navidad . . . I always remember her valiant efforts to get teenagers to sing that song in class every year! She is a part of my young memories as a great teacher and the sweet mother of my friend, Lane.

Connie Fernald was not only the mother of my dear friend Lane, but also my Spanish teacher. She was part of a special group of teachers at El Dorado High School in the 1970s. Those of us fortunate enough to have studied under them are forever better for the experience, and those of us who learned Spanish from Mrs. Fernald had our horizons broadened in ways we may never fully appreciate.

Condolences and sympathy to the family.

To Sra Fernald: Vaya con Dios and muchas gracias.

1973, our family became neighbors with The Fernalds. Connie was a special friend of my mother. They were sewing sisters, perfectionist in everything they created. Her sweet laugh will be with me forever.
