Elliott entered the US Navy in February, 1951 and served as a fireman on the Willis A. Lee until 1954. This is when he traveled to Alaska with a few close friends searching for his fortune. As that didn’t quite work out, Papaw Pete sent money for his return trip home. He married Ann Gathright April 30, 1955 and they raised their family in Strong. He retired from Georgia Pacific paper mill in Crossett after working as a pipe - fitter for 45 years. His greatest joys were keeping his wife happy, watching his grandchildren enter his living room door, fishing, and woodworking. He was a Papa that loved his family more than anything. I’m so honored to have met this man. He was always so kind and soft spoken. On our many trips to Fort Smith we always listened to 107.3 and drove a little over the speed limit. We never talked a lot on our trips that was radio listening time. Before we headed home we would make a stop at Braums or Popeyes chicken. Braums was a chocolate shake and Popeyes was a 3 piece chicken tender meal. He choices never changed. If I had to shop he would wait at the front of the store and people
watch. When we headed home he would tell me about the stranges things he had seen. Thanks to the Family for sharing him with me. Fly high Mr. Burson.

To me he was Buck and Blue’s Poppa. He always welcomed me in to his house with a smile and happy voice saying, “ Come on in!” I saw the love he had for Mrs Ann and his kids, grandkids, and great grands. I loved watching the pride He took in his wood work and I know each will cherish the pieces he made them. My heart and prayers are with you all during this time.
