Dale worked in the oilfield in Smackover until he went to work for Treat-o-lite and moved to Cut Bank, MT. After 10 years he moved the family back to Smackover where he again worked in the oilfield, as a chemical salesman and truck driver for Baker-Hughes and Baker- Petrolite. Dale proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed for four years in Jacksonville, FL, serving on the aircraft carrier, USS Intrepid.
All who knew Dale knew how much he loved Nela and Melanie. He was a Godly man and faithful member of First Baptist Church. He served in many areas of the church as a deacon and helper to all in need. He tried to be a worthy servant to all he met. Dale loved the outdoors and all it provided. He was an avid trapper, fisherman, and hunter of game and arrowheads. He loved to show off his arrowhead collection and demonstrate how they were made to the children in the school.
Preceding him in death along with his parents was his sister Carolyn (Wayne) Smeltzer.
Those left to treasure the memories made are his soulmate and beloved wife of 58 years Nela Lotz, his daughter Melanie (Jamie) Wright of Kaufman, TX, granddaughters Chloe Wright of Whitney TX, and Alexus Wright of Kaufman, TX, and a great granddaughter Emily Mae Wilson of Whitney TX. His sister Donnie (Maxie) Longing of London, AR and a brother Al (Natalie) Lotz of Texarkana, AR. He had many nieces and nephews. Also, the SHS class members of 1964 and members of the Antique Buckaroo club will miss him dearly.
Dale’s legacy of hard work, service to others, loyalty and love will forever live on in his family. A quiet man of integrity, strong strength in his faith, and a quick wit, whose word was his bond. Dale will be missed every day by the people who knew and loved him.
