Gloria Frances Story

Gloria Dearing Story, 83 of El Dorado, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Timberlane Health and Rehab. She was born on September 15, 1927, to the late Preston Albert Dearing and Clara Geneva Forrest Dearing.

Gloria graduated from EHS in 1945 and was also a lifelong member First Christian Church in El Dorado. She attended Louisiana Tech University and earned a bachelors degree from Texas State University. Gloria was an accomplished pianist and loved music. She was a jazz singer and started her career in the Empire Room at the Rice Hotel in Houston. After traveling with several bands, she moved to California to persue her music. She later turned her attention to teaching. She obtained a master’s degree in psychology from Laverne University in California. She retired after 29 dedicated years of teaching in Los Angeles, where she was the English Department Chairman and Reading Coordinator. She later moved to Las Vegas and entered the real estate field. She received honors from Properties Plus, Inc., the Million Dollar Club in 1995 and the multi-million dollar club in 1996. She was also awarded the Performance Leader award by Century 21. Gloria returned to make El Dorado her home in 2003.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and son Frank Preston Kelsey.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011, at First Christian Church with Rev. Tom Whitworth officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
