Herman Young Martindill, 90, of El Dorado passed from this life Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born May 11, 1923 in Pulaski County to Clifford Edward & Elise Young Martindill. Herman was a graduate of Conway High School, attended State Teacher’s College at Conway until early 1942, when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Pacific, on the Islands of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Midway during WWII. After his discharge, in 1946, he returned to Arkansas, where he met the love of his life, Geraldine Windham and graduated from the U of A, as a member of Kappa Sigma, with a BS in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he began his career with Gulf Oil, later accepting a position with United Specialties, Inc., where he retired as their general manager.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Lay Preacher, and was member of the church board. A life member of the El Dorado Civitan Club, past president of Toastmaster, an alderman on the city council, and was a member of the El Dorado School Board.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine “Jerri” Windham Martindill, and a son, Mark Dean Martindill.
Survivors include his son, Wyck Martindill and wife, Debbie of Pine Bluff, AR.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2012 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors with Rev. Pam Brule’ officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Young’s.
