Born on January 5, 1921, in Mooringsport, LA; she was the daughter of William H. and Lucy Puckett Aiken. Irene graduated in 1939 from De Queen High School and soon went to Los Angeles, CA, where she was a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ for North American Aircraft Company. After the war she worked as a seamstress for MM Cohn’s and assistant dietician for Union Memorial Hospital. Irene was a person who believed in family and faith. She was a faithful member of West Side Baptist Church. Irene also enjoyed caring for her family along with knitting afghans and dish rags for family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ralph and Warren Aiken, a son Kenneth Baker and her husband Aubrey ‘A.L.’ Baker.
Survivors are a daughter Barbara (Harold) Jones of El Dorado, sons Randy (Barbara) Baker of Bridgeport, MI, Larry (Mary Lynn) Baker of Ft Smith, a sister Paulene Butler of Pasadena, TX, grand children Kenya Baker, Brian Baker, David Baker, Laura Schaub, Susan Dilworth, Brad Jones, Rob Baker and Amanda Baker, and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Rehobeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 4 pm to 7 pm at Young’s Funeral Directors.
