

Born on October 22, 1924 in El Dorado, he was the son of the late Joseph Marcus Byrd and Myrtle Oma Hurley Byrd. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church having served on the vestry and as a junior warden. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years and in his later years was an avid golfer spending many an afternoon on the course as a long-time member of the El Dorado Golf & Country Club. He served his country with pride during World War II in Patton’s 14th Armored Division, 3rd Army.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 46 years, Dannie Wilfong Byrd.
Survivors include sons Dan (Patsy) Byrd and Jim (Kim) Byrd, a daughter Janis Byrd Lacy, a brother T. M. (Gloria) Byrd and loving and longtime companion Elena Estes, all of El Dorado; along with 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Jack led a full and rewarding life and was known for his friendly smile and optimistic outlook. He was a loving husband, father, companion, grandfather and friend and always supportive of them all.
Funeral services for Jack will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father’s Bob Allen and Chuck Chapman officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Church Parish Hall.
