

Jerry graduated from Gothenburg High School in Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1958. He and his brother Spence participated in football, basketball, track, and baseball during their high school years. He attended Kearney St College for 2 years. He was in the Army National Guard. He was a hairdresser and owned Jerry & Company Designs in San Leandro, CA until 1998 when he retired to take care of his wife Helen. After they moved to El Dorado, he worked at Lions Club Golf Course where he made great friends.
Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church where he served as an usher, office volunteer, “the football referee” for the Children’s Christian Formation on Wed. afternoons, and assisted with the youth (EYC) meetings. He was a reading tutor with El Dorado Connections and a volunteer with Hope Landing. He was a member of the Silver Kickers from Champagnolle Landing.
Preceding Jerry in death are his wife, Helen Jewell Decker; his parents; step-mother, Judith Decker; step-father, Miland Silveria; brother, Spencer Decker, Jr.; nephew, Jay Decker; and niece, Pam Dreher.
He is survived by his sister, Dixie Dreher and her husband Rod; sister-in-law, Janean Decker; nephews, Ted Decker, Gary (Gayle) McKenzie, and Tom (Angel) Dreher; nieces, Kris (Reiny) Grasmack, Sheri (Dave) Geisbrecht, Susan (Sam) Hock, Karol Nelson, Lynell (Muriel) Decker Martins, Anne (Ron) Schmidt; 16 great nieces and nephews; 3 great-great and (2 more on the way); and his special friend Jessie Butterfield and her family. Along with many other friends.
Jerry loved life, his family and friends, golf, hiking, line-dancing and most of all—The Nebraska Corn Huskers.
A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
An account has been set up at First Financial Bank to purchase a defibrillator for Champagnolle Landing in Jerry’s honor.
