Jimmy Lynn Greenwalt, 80, of El Dorado, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord on November 19, 2025. Born December 20, 1944, to Therman Lee and Elizabeth Ann (Owens) Greenwalt, in Eagle Pass, Texas. He grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a member of the Senior Class of 1963 at Grove High School, Grove Oklahoma where he played football and forged lifelong friendships.
Jim married the love of his life, Anita, on March 31, 1977. He was the proud father of a son and daughter. He was blessed to be called “Papaw JIm” by a total of 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren—and another little one already on the way.
During his teen years, Jim worked summers at a fishing dock on Grand Lake, instilling in him a love for the water that never faded. Early adult life had Jim in grocery store management and briefly as a lineman for a rural electric coop. However, for most of his life, Jim worked in the transportation industry as dispatcher and owner-operator. In the late nineties, he and Anita operated Greenwalt Trucking, Inc. (GTI) alongside their dearest friends, David and Dian Pruitt. In 2000, they closed down GTI and Jim drove cross country for a major truckline until “semi” retiring in 2013. Never one to sit still, he then worked 10 years for the City of El Dorado, first as a truck driver in the Street Department, then laborer in the Parks Department—until his full retirement in June 2023. Throughout his lifetime, Jim demonstrated a strong work ethic leaving a lasting impact on coworkers and the communities he served.
In his free time Jim loved watching football, deer hunting, and especially bass fishing. He and his son Barron proudly brought home trophies from bass tournaments over the years—memories the family will treasure always.
Jim was raised in the Baptist faith, but raised his children attending non-denominational, Spirit-filled churches. Jim’s faith and profession in Jesus as his personal savior was made public through baptism on September 9, 1996, officiated by Pastor Buzzy Sutherlin. His faith and the promise of scripture— “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8) gives his family and friends deep comfort knowing that he is now in the presence of Jesus. Though their hearts ache at the loss of his earthly fellowship, they do not grieve as those without hope. Instead they rejoice that he is now whole, at peace, and forever dwelling in his eternal Home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Therman Greenwalt; mother, Beth Packer; stepfather, Bill Packer; brother-in-laws: Billy Smith, Robert “Bob” McLamb; nephews: Geremy Hill, Steve Smith, Jon Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 48 years, Anita; son, Pastor Barron Greenwalt (Kristyn); daughter, Jamie Lynn “Amieja” Burton (James Rice); honorary son, Richard Pennington; granddaughters: Caitlin Greenwalt, Cami Burton, Autumn Burton, Sabbath Justice (Chris), Sonnet McFadden (Sam), Summer Woodrow; grandsons: Brandon Tucker, Thaine Woodrow (Christin), Jaden Rice; great-grands: Penelope, Persephone, Primrose, T.J., Tyson, (and one on the way); sister, Judy Smith-McLamb; brother, Jerry Greenwalt Sr.; Sister-in-law Kathy Hill (Gary); nieces: Shannon Crump (Derick), Kristy Williams (Nathan); nephews: Jerry Greenwalt, Jr., Garret Hill; as well as 8 great- nieces/nephews, a host of friends, coworkers, and extended family– too numerous to name but certainly cherished and never forgotten.
