

Joe was born on August 4, 1935 in El Dorado to George Jefferson Childs and Mary Ellen Langley Childs. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington and a retired pilot and aviation mechanic. Joe was widely known for his custom pool cues he enjoyed making. He also played the guitar and banjo. Joe was a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #18 and was of the Baptist faith.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott Childs; sisters, Vera Nell Chandler and Mary Ruth Davis; and brothers, Jerry Paul Childs and George Childs Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Leslie Hannegan of Mt. Holly, Sharon Marks and husband Robert of Calvert, TX, Mary McNeely and husband Chad of Smackover; daughter-in-law, Becki Childs of Mt Holly; six grandchildren, Jarad Hannegan of Hampton, Alyssa Hall of Village, Sarah and Casey Childs of Mt. Holly, Melanie and Cole McNeely of Smackover; one great-grandchild Leigha Thornton of Village; a sister, Betty Butler of Searcy; a brother, Henry Childs of Downsville, LA; an aunt, Myrtle Barr of Smackover; and his caretaker, Rosemary Childress. He will be missed by his beloved German shepherd, Miss Mollie.
A memorial service will be held at Mt Holly Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday, May 4, 2013. Cremation services were provided by Young’s Funeral Directors of El Dorado, AR.
