John attended the University of Illinois and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He worked for Lion Oil several years before starting his own architectural firm in 1936, which is still in business today as CADM. He was of the Methodist faith. He remained active in the El Dorado Kiwanis and the South Arkansas Historical Foundation until his death.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Alice Grayson Abbott; two sisters, Mina Abbott and Edith Danner.
Survivors include his son, John C. Abbott, Sr. (Charlotte); granddaughter, Alice Abbott (Rudy Buckman); grandson, John C. Abbott, Jr. (Katrina) all of El Dorado; five great grandchildren, Ben Abbott, Abby Abbott, Zach Abbott, Thomas Buckman of El Dorado, and Jonathan Buckman of New York City, NY; and one sister, Jane Prosper of Spearfish, SD.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Young’s Chapel with Mary Susan Hilliard officiating. Burial will follow at Stephens Cemetery in Stephens, AR, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are the Coffee Gang at La Bella’s.
