John Ross Meadows

John Ross Meadows, 85, of El Dorado, passed from this life to eternal life on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was beloved by so very many and he loved God, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of twenty-five years, Nona Jean Dalton Meadows, his father and mother, Ira and Annie Staggs Meadows, a brother, Wayne Meadows, a sister, Gayle “Auntie” Amason, and grandsons, Justin Meadows and John Scott Meadows, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of forty years, Elaine Robertson Boone Meadows; sons Mike (Cathy) Meadows, Rusty (Nancy) Meadows and Scott Meadows; daughters Laura (Rocky) Jones and Kathy (Scott) Genry; grandchildren Alan (Cynthia) Meadows, Clint (Tiffany) Meadows, Amanda (Nick) McNabb, Anna (Todd) Lindsey, Julia Meadows, Collin Jones, Madaline Jones, Lainie Genry and Lexie Genry; great-grandchildren Chandler Meadows, Avery Meadows, Finn Meadows, Lily McNabb, Noah Lindsey, Caroline Meadows, Caden Meadows, Carly Meadows and Tate Meadows.

John was born in McNeil, AR, and graduated high school at Stephens where he was a stand-out basketball player. Soon after graduation in 1951, he moved to El Dorado where he went to work for Arkansas Specialty Company, later becoming owner and president of that successful business. A follower of Christ, he served as deacon and elder of the Hillsboro St. Church of Christ and later as a member of the College Ave. Church of Christ. He was extremely active in the community and at various times was a Toastmaster, a Civitan and a board member of the Exchange Bank and Trust Company. For several years he served on the El Dorado School Board and was on the original board of Camp Kurios, a Christian Youth Camp. He was a charter member of the Harding University Development Council and was instrumental in helping many young people receive a college education.

He enjoyed anything related to his family whom he loved dearly. He was blessed with the companionship of a devoted Pomeranian, Katy Belle. He loved to go fishing with his friends and family and spent many hours working with wood in his shop.

The family would like to acknowledge, with great thanks, the loving caregivers that assisted him in recent years: Stephanie Hall, Brittany Martin, Angie Narcisse, Mary Fairly and Willie Nute. Also, we would like to thank LifeTouch Hospice.

Visitation with the family will be at 1:00 on Tuesday, March 6 at the College Ave. Church of Christ in El Dorado, with a memorial service following at 2:00. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
