Johnnie D. Powell

Johnnie D. Powell, 66 of Smackover, passed away, Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born March 1, 1949 to Lonnie Eugene and Helen Lucille Jennings Powell in Cleveland, MS. He was of the Pentecostal faith and worked as a welder for Milam Construction. He enjoyed spending his time fishing and being outdoors, along with spending time with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his daughter, Renee Tomek (Matthew) of Memphis, TN; sister, Janis R. Mayo (Jerry) of Shaw, MS; brother, James E. Powell of Cleveland, MS; two nieces, Beth Young of Shaw, MS, Crystal Thornton (Marc) of Cleveland, MS; nephew, Michael Powell (Lydia) of Pace, MS; and a host of close special friends in Smackover.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Young’s Chapel under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors with Rev. Lonnie Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Apostolic Church of Smackover, 1401 Pershing Hwy., Smackover, AR 71762, of the charity of the donor’s choice.
