

Josephine was born on October 3, 1921 in McGehee, AR to Edward Carroll Joyner and Ruby Kellogg Joyner. She had 10 children and was “Mama” to many others. She was a homemaker, a painter, a writer and loved to sing to her children. Her many talents continue to live on through her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jesse T. Black and 4 of her children, Johnny, Joe, Jacky and Jeanne; Her parents; her brothers Ed, Bill, Arthur, Victor and twin brother Joe Joyner, her sister Teeny Murry and son-in-law Terry Butterfield.
She is survived by her daughters Jessie Butterfield of Smackover, AR; Ruby (Jim) Newton of Riverside, TX, Jan Black of Smackover, AR; her sons Bill (Linda) Black of Mesquite, TX, James (Debbie) Black and J.J. (Carole) Black of Longview, TX; Daughter-in-laws Barbara Black of Medina, OH and Jackie Black of Norphlet, AR; a sister Annetta Pyle of El Dorado; brother- in-laws Edward (Bonnie) Black of Wilton, AR and Bill (Betty) Black of Silsbee, TX; along with 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Josephine Marie Joyner married Jesse Thad Black on October 2, 1940. They had 10 children. We were blessed. We all sat in her lap.
A Rosary Service will be Sunday July 5th at 6:30 pm in the Chapel of Young's Funeral Directors; the family will then receive friends from 7pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Eddie D'Almeida officiating. Interment will follow at Smackover Cemetery.
