Joyce Pride Armstrong

Joyce Pride White Armstrong, age 76 of Smackover & McGehee, Arkansas, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at her home. Born December 11, 1934 in Norphlet, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Delvin White and Beatrice Garrett White.

Joyce was a 1952 graduate of Smackover High School. Joyce married William Howell “Buddy” Armstrong on July 11, 1953 and from that point on she dedicated her life to him and the family they created. Mrs. Armstrong was active in the Joy Sunday School Class, adult choir, and was a Bible school teacher at First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, collecting antiques, and traveling. It was always clear her main passion was her family.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, a sister, Elsie White Anderson, and a brother, D.R. “ Bud” White.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marty Armstrong of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth Anne and Lewis Holt of McGhee, Arkansas; two sisters, Betty Parker and her husband Doyle of Smackover, Arkansas, Charlotte Edwards and her husband Don of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren, Brodie and Claire Armstrong of Houston, Texas and Bradley and Kara Beth Holt of McGehee, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Tuesday, August 2nd, at the First Baptist Church of Smackover, with Rev. Robert McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Smackover Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will be at Young’s on Monday, August 1st, from 6-8 PM.

A reception/lunch will be provided at First Baptist Church following the graveside service.

Active pallbearers will be Don Traylor, John Barker, Charlie Price, Joe Tabor, Doyle Fleming, Gary DeYampert, Bob Willet, and Billy Spruill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Smackover.
