Julia Jeanette Smith, longtime resident of El Dorado, AR, passed away at the age of 96 years on March 20, 2019 in Fayetteville, AR. She was later a resident of the North Hills Care and Rehab Center in Fayetteville for seven years.
Julia was born on September 28, 1922 in Dallas, TX, and is preceded in death by her parents Casper Henry and Ira Zelma Moore Smith, two brothers B. C. Smith and Billy Gene Smith, and one sister Mildred Smith Perry.
She attended high school in Warren Arkansas and she married to the late William Pervis Smith on December 24, 1941 in Warren. While Pervis served in Brazil during WW II in the Army Air Corp, Julia lived in a boarding house (Coker Hotel) in Warren. As secretary of the Farmers Security Administration (FSA), was detailed to Arkadelphia, as well as Sheridan. On Pervis’ return from Brazil, they were stationed in Little Rock. After his military discharge, they moved back to Warren. After their move to El Dorado, in 1961 she worked for many years at the Department of Human Services.
She was a faithful member of the Parkview Baptist Church of El Dorado where she sang in the church choir. Her love and passion was to send cards to family members and friends. Julia also enjoyed attending “The Bible Study Fellowship” at the Immanuel Baptist Church of El Dorado. Her interests included gardening, cooking, and volunteering at Parkview Baptist Church Library.
After Pervis’ death in 1984 at the age of 63, Julia continued to live in her home until her health began to fail. In 2004, her son and daughter in-law, Danny and Brenda Smith, opened their home to her in Pine Bluff, where she lived until moving with them to Fayetteville in 2009.
She is survived by three daughters Marilyn Jeanette Smith Ellen (Alan Ellen) of Three Creeks, AR, Sharon Lynn Smith (Glenn Claunch) of San Antonio, TX, Anita Louise Smith Shipp (Donnie Shipp) of Fort Worth, TX, and two sons, Dale Smith (Linda Cook Smith) and Danny Lee Smith (Brenda McGehee Smith) both of Elkins, AR, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 25, 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Young’s Funeral Home, 508 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, Arkansas. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 26, 10:00 am at Parkview Baptist Church, 608 West 8th Street, El Dorado. Pastor Lawrence Harrison is officiating the service. Interment will follow at the Arlington Memorial Cemetery, 702 N Mosby Avenue, El Dorado.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Ray Bryant, Travis Braswell, Alan Ellen II, Ray Ellen, Adam Smith, and Nathan Shipp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund, Hospice, or the Arkansas Alzheimer’s Association.
