She was born December 18, 1939 in El Dorado, AR to Carmen Ivy and Dr. Randolph Murphy. Outstanding at an early age, Lucie attended Camp Nagawicka in Delafield, WI and was selected best camper, a highly-coveted award by everyone who attended! An avid golfer, she won the junior state golf championship in her teens. She graduated from El Dorado High School where she was voted “wittiest” in her senior class. Upon high school graduation, she attended Hollins College in Roanoke, VA, where she was selected sophomore class president. She transferred to the University of Arkansas where she married the love of her life. Soon after, they were blessed with the arrival of four children who brought much joy and love to their lives. Lucie was very active in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Civitans, and Al-Anon. Among her favorite past times were sharing time with her grandchildren at the beach and swimming in her favorite khaki skirt and golf shirt! Most recently and to no surprise, Lucie was selected Valentine Queen at Timberlane Health and Rehab. Lulu had a large personality and her legacy was one of Love, Laughter, and being unapologetically herself.
Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Dr. and Mrs. Randolph Murphy; her sister, Julia Katherine Murphy; her son, Walter John Giller III; her daughter, Heidi Giller Meadows; and her beloved grandson, John Scott Meadows, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Amy Giller Heyman (Steven) and Mary Ann Moore (Wayne); her beloved grandchildren Daniel and Rachel Heyman; Julia Meadows (Kyle Cochran); Jett (Ainsley), Jackson, and Davis Moore; Walter John IV and Blake Giller; and her “adopted son” Bobby Lacy.
While family will not be present, a visitation for Lucie’s friends will be held Friday, November 6, from 3-6 pm at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado. A family graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock. A celebration of Lucie’s life will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Lucie requested donations be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Organ Fund; the American Cancer Society; the Greater Arkansas Chapter of JDRF; or the Heifer Project International.
