Margy Ann Curtis Richardson, age 82, of El Dorado, AR, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, died on November 18, 2025. Margy was born on December 22, 1942, in Magnolia, AR to Ben Parchman Curtis and Marjorie Burton Curtis.
Margy graduated from Magnolia High School in 1960. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Margy was active in the El Dorado community throughout her life, dedicating time to social and philanthropic groups like the El Dorado Service League, Garden Club and Camp Fire Girls. Certified as a master gardener, Margy spent countless hours cultivating beautiful gardens and found joy in sharing her plant cuttings with family and friends.
An accomplished needleworker, Margy co-founded Designing Women Unlimited, a wholesale needlework design company that created and sold hand painted needlepoint canvases and published needlework books. Her company enabled her to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally. The international trips allowed her to explore both modern and ancient needlework techniques, with Hong Kong, Portugal, Ireland and Turkey among her favorite destinations.
She ultimately chose to pursue a career in counseling. She attended Southern Arkansas University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Education in Clinical Counseling, graduating with honors. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, she found her true passion was to help people through life’s challenges. Her dedication led to an appointment by the Arkansas Governor to the State Board of Examiners of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, where she served as chairman. She practiced at the Recovery Center and the South Arkansas Center on Aging in El Dorado and the Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, AR., before establishing a private counseling practice in El Dorado.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 61 years, John Eric Richardson.
Margy is survived by daughters Amy Richardson Bradshaw (Blake) of Kirkwood, MO. and Rebecca Curtis Richardson (Carl Ormerod) of Piedmont, MO.; son John Eric Richardson Jr. of Healdsburg, CA; brother Ben Earl Curtis II (Sarah) of Mesquite, TX; sisters Betty Jo Darden (Mike) of El Dorado, AR, Mary Lucy Ray (Bo) of Magnolia, AR and Linda Susan Anders (David) of Magnolia, AR; grandsons Blake Allen Bradshaw Jr. of St. Louis, MO., and Benjamin Bradshaw (Rose) of Kansas City, MO.; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
